I live in a modest bungalow with an average sized yard in the city of Ottawa, Ontario (zone 5a). Here with my husband, Eric, and our two sons; Dylan, 15 and Jaden, 5; we enjoy the rich culture of urban life and easy access to shopping malls and grocery stores. However, like most people of modest means, our funds are growing tight as the economy continues to slide. And we’ve decided to do something about it.
Over the next year we’ll be transforming our small yard into a beautiful, edible and completely organic landscape. Our goals are simple. We want to save grocery money, while nurturing the environment. And we hope to encourage others to do the same. To that end, we must prove that the finished product can be both functional and beautiful. Hence the term “edible landscape.” To us, it’s not enough to have a bountiful garden in our back yard. It HAS to look great!
We’ll be learning a lot as we take on this mission and we hope that you will too.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Englert
